The story takes place in an apartment called Emerald House, where Tokiko Ogiwara (played by Yoko Natsuki) is the manager. This imaginative woman wants to transform the apartment into a place that helps young people achieve their dreams, so the conditions for moving in are very unique: the price is not discussed; only the compatibility between the guests looking to rent and the atmosphere of the apartment matters. Residents include glass artist Kazuko Horiike (played by Reiko Kataoka), writer Kōtarō Aizawa (played by Tony Nakajima), and photographer Sawa Fujimura (played by Kazumi Kawashima). One day, a man named Eiji Hiyama (played by Masaya Takakuda) arrives at Emerald House, where he opens a second-hand bookstore. The joys and sorrows of the residents coming and going are observed by Sawa, who incorporates them into his novel titled "The Incomplete Moon."
