This film is inspired by the life of Irish Communist leader James Gralton, telling the story of his return from exile in America in 1933 to reopen "Jimmy's Hall." The "Jimmy's Hall" refers to the dance hall that James Gralton established in Effrinagh, Ireland, where countless free thinkers gathered to learn, debate, dream, and entertain. Nevertheless, "Jimmy's Hall" is likely to be the last narrative film directed by Ken Loach. Earlier this August, Loach's long-time collaborator and producer Rebecca O’Brien hinted to the media that due to age and energy reasons, Ken Loach is likely to focus on making documentaries and television series in the future, with little chance of directing narrative films again.
