In a temporary shelter somewhere, a family of four is huddled together. The eldest son, Soichi Sawada (played by Masayo Ueno), refuses the compensation and insists on punishing those responsible. His wife, Misa (played by Sakura Ando), is compelled to go out and earn a living for the family. His mother, Tomeko (played by Yuko Tanaka), who is not biologically related to Soichi, feels like a burden to her son and longs for her biological son, Jiro (played by Kenichi Matsuyama), who is far away. Meanwhile, Jiro quietly returns to his hometown, disregarding the restrictions, and begins to cultivate on his own land. The attachment to the land and the bonds of blood bring the family, whose minds and bodies are on the verge of collapse, back together, and returning home seems to become their inevitable fate...
