The film narrates the life of teenage girl Anne Frank (played by Ellie Kendrick) as she and her family hide in a secret room to escape the Nazis. Two years filled with fear and confusion turn diary writing into the greatest joy of Anne's life. She diligently records the pains and precious moments of laughter during this bitter time, with her thoughts being the only thing free. Unfortunately, after two years, tragedy befell this family as they were sent to a concentration camp. The strong and optimistic Anne, along with her family and friends, tragically perished, with only her father escaping. After the war, Anne's father decided to fulfill his daughter's wish—publishing her diary. Anne's last diary entry was written on August 1, 1944, and "Anne's Diary" documents the wartime suffering of people under Nazi rule, becoming one of the best-selling books, second only to the Bible. The film is adapted from Anne Frank's autobiographical novel "The Diary of a Young Girl." The BBC invited writer Deborah Moggach, known for the film adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice," to bring this work back to the screen.
