This film is based on true historical events, telling the legendary story of the "No" campaign during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. Pinochet's military government suppressed dissent with brutal repression, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. However, facing international pressure, they were forced to hold a plebiscite where the people would decide whether Pinochet should continue to serve an additional eight-year term with a "Yes" or "No" vote. The opposition leader recruits a young advertising executive, René Saavedra (played by Gael Garcí Bernal), to promote their counter-campaign. Will this war of votes ultimately achieve victory through advertising? Director Pablo Larraín has long focused on Chilean politics, creating this final installment of the "Pinochet Trilogy," following "No" and "The Club." The film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013 and was selected for the main competition at the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2012. Director Pablo Larraín was awarded the Golden Shell at the 65th Cannes Film Festival in 2012.
