This is a tragic song of the losers. After the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) ended, the defenders of the defeated Republican government were understandably sentenced to imprisonment, and along with their bodies, their voices were also imprisoned. The film mainly tells the tragic story of a group of women who were imprisoned during the bloody repression and retaliation by the military leader Franco against the opposition. The work shapes a series of female characters with similar backgrounds and diverse personalities, depicting not only their suffering lives in prison but also reflecting their heroic spirit in swearing to fight against the reactionary authorities to the end. However, among these fighters who endured hardships in prison, some were executed, some died from illness, and very few fortunate ones were released. Therefore, they raised a loud slogan: to survive, to tell the history, to let their voices be heard. Thus, the “sleeping voice” emerged.
