Three childhood friends, Rivkin (played by Chris Klein), Feller (played by Elijah Wood), and Dixon, have maintained their innocent friendship despite living different lives in New York. One day, they all receive enlistment notices, giving them only 30 days to prepare. This notice profoundly impacts their lives. Rivkin is a married lawyer whose career is on the rise, having just been made a partner at his law firm. He struggles to find legal loopholes in the enlistment process to evade service, as both his career and family are facing significant changes. This places him in a moral and professional dilemma. Feller is a writer whose first novel has achieved great success. However, the enlistment notice disrupts his plans, forcing him to reconsider his life and career choices. To make the most of the limited time, Feller creates a list of ten things he hopes to accomplish before enlisting, marking his personal growth and adventurous journey. Dixon is a taxi driver who has lived alone. At first, he feels excitement and pride about enlisting, viewing it as an opportunity, but over time he begins to realize that joining the military might cost him many things, including his freedom and independence. This leads him to an inner struggle as he must decide whether he is willing to sacrifice for his country.
