The crazier the advertisers are, the funnier the ads they create. Ad copywriter Ann Murray (played by Dudley Moore) finds himself only able to come up with honest ad copy, leading the company to send him to a mental hospital. Ironically, his blunt copy style becomes very popular, and he starts collaborating with the "crazy" inmates of the hospital to write even more absurd and hilarious copy. Here are a few of the comedic lines created by the "crazy" people and some of the film's funniest moments. The first funny moment: An ad for an airline — "Most passengers flying with this airline return alive." The second funny moment: An ad for the post office. A speeding mail truck barrels down the road. The cheerful mailman says, "To ensure your letters are delivered on time, what’s a few dead people?" The third funny moment: A travel ad for the Bahamas. The frame is filled with an voluptuous bikini-clad woman named "Bahamas," with the slogan: "Enter the Bahamas!" The camera cuts to numerous operators explaining to complainants, "The services we provide do not include ‘entering a woman’s body.’" The fourth funny moment: An Asian young man with mental health issues, after winning a car, eagerly tries it out, shouting, "Damn it, let's run over a few white folks first." The fifth funny moment: An image ad for New York City — "This year's murder rate is one less than last year." The sixth funny moment: An ad for Sony. Pre-air version (American description): "Because Japanese people (who are shorter) have their eyes closer to electronic components, they produce electronics." Post-air version (Japanese description): "Since Westerners (who are taller) have their eyes further from electronic components, we handle the precision instrument assembly, Sony Electronics."
