If the country does not love me, what is the meaning of fighting for its glory? In 1936, Berlin, Germany hosted the Olympics for the first time, while genocide was rampant. Sports began to collude with politics; the world’s number one pole vaulter, Gretel, was a German Jew. The United States threatened to boycott the Olympics if Germany suppressed the Jews and specifically called for Gretel to compete. Gretel, who sought asylum in England, became a pawn of the Nazi Party. Although she was urgently called back to train, the state apparatus subjected her to various physical and mental pressures and even sent a male disguised as a woman, Marie, to challenge her representative status. Unexpectedly, a hostile relationship turned into affection over time. Highlights for Olympic fans: the ancient pole vault competition system and the grand spectacle of the past Olympic airships. The true identities of the two main characters had previously appeared in Leifenshtain's "Olympic."
