Nicole Bonnet (played by Audrey Hepburn) is the daughter of wealthy art collector Charles Bonnet (played by Hugh Griffith). Nicole is not only beautiful but also very intelligent. One day, a museum in Paris is about to hold an art exhibition, and her father, who enjoys creating forgeries of masterpieces, is unexpectedly invited to participate. However, the so-called great masterpiece, a statue of Venus, is actually a fake made by her grandfather. Her father not only agrees to let the museum display it but also buys a one-million-dollar insurance policy on it before the insurance company discovers it is a forgery. Once the truth comes out, the family’s reputation will be completely ruined. To help her father through this crisis, Nicole hires a talented thief, Simon Dermott (played by Peter O'Toole), to steal the sculpture. A suave gentleman thief and a clever, beautiful femme fatale, the two unexpectedly fall in love during the heist. However, Simon's true identity leaves Nicole greatly shocked. American director William Wyler, after the huge success of "Roman Holiday," collaborated again with the famous star Audrey Hepburn to create this crime film "How to Steal a Million" which is infused with light comedy and romance. The intricate and meticulous plot design, alongside Wyler's signature mastery of camera work, adds a touch of darkness and irony to the film.
