The poetic and humorous hitman Benoît (played by Benoît Poelvoorde) hires a film crew to document his life at his own expense. In front of the camera, he openly and candidly reveals the entire process of each murder, explaining various killing techniques in detail. The crew members gradually transform from mere spectators to Benoît's accomplices, as this madman seems to race uncontrollably toward a devastating end… The film's budget was only $15,000, yet it became Belgium's most commercially successful film of the year and won the SACD Award for Best Film and the Special Jury Prize at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Foreign Film Award from the French Film Critics Association in 1993, Best Actor (Benoît Poelvoorde) and Best Film at the 1992 Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival, and the Metro Media Award at the 1992 Toronto International Film Festival. Director Rémy Belvaux passed away on September 4, 2006, at the age of 40.
