In 1946, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East convened in Tokyo to try Japanese war criminals. The court was composed of judges from 11 different countries, appointed by the National Government of China, with Mei Ruyao (played by Lau Siu-Ming) as the head of the Chinese judges who arrived in Tokyo on March 20. Journalist Xiao Nan (played by Zhu Xiaotian) from the Dagong Bao was responsible for comprehensive coverage of the tribunal, and he met his wartime lover, Tian Fangzi (played by Lin Xilei), at a banquet. At the event, Xiao Nan witnessed Mei Ruyao's excitement and joy, yet sensed that the journey would be fraught with difficulties. The trial finally commenced, but the Chinese delegation faced numerous challenges and setbacks, with a surprising majority in the court opposing the death penalty. In the face of bias and obstacles from foreign judges, the Chinese judges and prosecutors engaged in a battle of wits, overcoming various unfavorable factors stemming from their unfamiliarity with American law, gaining the upper hand in courtroom debates. Ultimately, would the court be able to send notorious war criminals like Tojo Hideki to the gallows?
