Jack (Jean-Marc Barr) grew up by the sea in Greece, and although he watched his father die in a diving accident as a child, it did not diminish his love for the ocean. When Jack's friend Enzo (played by Jean Reno) finds him and persuades him to participate in a diving championship, Jack agrees, excels in the competition, and wins the love of Joanna (played by Rosanna Arquette). The two are deeply in love, but Jack realizes he cannot let go of or be away from the sea. An accident occurs. Jack's friend Enzo tragically dies while diving, and Jack places Enzo's body in the ocean. Confused and lost, Jack feels he no longer belongs to human society and only wants to dive into the deep sea, living his life alongside the ocean like a dolphin. Despite hearing the news of Joanna's pregnancy, Jack gazes lovingly at his partner and turns to embrace the ocean.
