This film is directed, written, and self-produced by Zheng Changhe, who gained recognition in the international market with "The World's Greatest Fist." Set in the late Tang Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Zhaozong, regional warlords are vying for power. Duke Li Ming (Yin Yifeng) abuses his strength and oppresses the people. "Soul-chasing Pipa" Mu Junjie (Ling Yun) teams up with the Six Assassins to plan the assassination of Li Ming. Mu presents six skulls to Li Ming, making him believe that the greatest threat has been eliminated, and then secretly plots the murder... Director Zheng Changhe has a unique approach to period martial arts films. In the final scene, Li Ming takes shelter from the rain at the Ganlu River ferry, where Mu Junjie leads the charge. In the pouring rain, with blades flashing and blood splattering, this becomes a classic moment in martial arts cinema. It’s worth mentioning that newcomer Li Lili plays the heroine Sun Meizhen, shining brightly and establishing her status as a new generation of martial arts actresses.
