Amélie (Audrey Tautou) has what others deem an unfortunate childhood—during a health check, her father discovers that her heart beats too fast and concludes she has a heart condition, leading to her isolation from school. Then one day, her mother suddenly dies in front of her due to an accident. None of this affects Amélie's optimistic outlook on life. In 1997, the death of Princess Diana leaves her feeling lonely and fragile, prompting Amélie to initiate a series of helping plans, including assisting her reclusive depressed neighbor, dealing with her boss's harsh vegetable stall worker, comforting her former landlord who lost childhood memorabilia, and supporting her love-lorn coffee shop colleagues. However, she never expected that Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz), an employee at an adult video store, would become her complicated object of affection, leading Amélie to embark on a hilariously unconventional plan…
