Young people in Los Angeles are passionate about street racing; here, if you have speed, you have everything. Newly appointed officer Brian (Paul Walker) goes undercover to investigate a series of recent hijackings by street racing gangs, infiltrating an active crew to gather evidence with hopes of bringing the criminals to justice. Brian quickly earns the admiration and trust of the crew leader Dominic (Vin Diesel) due to his exceptional driving skills, and soon falls in love with Dominic's sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster). However, the crew's second-in-command, Vince, is hostile towards Brian, as he has harbored a crush on Mia, and Brian's presence threatens his position. At this point, the crew members start to suspect that there is an informant among them, making life difficult for Brian. The more time he spends with Dominic, the deeper their friendship grows, putting Brian in a difficult predicament.
