Nick (Tim Robbins) works in an advertising company and deeply loves his wife. He often feels guilty for not being able to accompany her due to work obligations. One day, a client cancels an appointment, allowing Nick to return home early; however, he discovers his wife having an affair with his boss. Devastated, Nick silently drives away from home. Meanwhile, a robber named Terrence (Martin Lawrence) unexpectedly assaults Nick's car to rob him, but the short-statured Terrence fails to intimidate the enraged Nick. Nick speeds off, taking Terrence to Arizona. Both men, now broke, quickly become worried about money. Following Terrence's example, Nick learns how to commit robbery and plans to steal a large sum of cash from his boss. The inexperienced duo is soon beaten by another pair of criminals who have local "crime exclusivity." After narrowly escaping, Nick and Terrence begin executing their theft plan, but their criminal activities soon face a series of unexpected changes...
