Jesse James (played by Brad Pitt) is the most infamous outlaw of the Civil War era. He and his brother formed the James gang, committing countless robberies alongside their henchmen, making even the most secure banks vulnerable to their attacks. Jesse became a legendary figure in the eyes of the common people due to his exceptional marksmanship and experiences. As Jesse approaches middle age, he gradually grows weary of his nomadic lifestyle and the cat-and-mouse game with the government. His gang members are either dead or injured, and his brother chooses to leave due to Jesse's bad temper. The new recruit of the "James gang," the timid Robert Ford (played by Casey Affleck), idolizes Jesse and retreats with the increasingly tired Jesse to the countryside.
