Once, Jones (played by Tommy Lee Jones) was forced by circumstances to abandon his family and follow an Indian tribe into the wilderness. Now, in his old age, he has finally returned to his hometown, but what awaits him is not the warm family he has long been separated from, but the news of his wife's death and his daughter Maggie (played by Cate Blanchett) turning her back on him. Although Maggie harbors resentment towards her father, her daughter Lily (played by Evan Rachel Wood) is particularly affectionate towards her grandfather. However, misfortune strikes the family when Lily is kidnapped by criminals, and Maggie's husband Brick (played by Aaron Eckhart) is also killed by the gang. To rescue her daughter, Maggie and Jones resolutely embark on a journey of revenge, but looming ahead are not only the brutal gangsters but also the deep rift in the hearts of the father and daughter.
