The film uses a flashback technique to narrate a series of stories that occurred between Chen Yi and the then twelve-year-old Luan Zhihong during his time in Maoshan, showcasing the great character of the revolutionary leader. A black "Audi" drives along a tree-lined avenue, surrounded by picturesque scenery. Retired provincial official Li Zhihong returns to her hometown, accompanied by her granddaughter, at the invitation of the Maoshan area. Decades apart, the tremendous changes in her hometown leave her deeply moved. A young mayor warmly welcomes them. When she learns that the mayor's grandfather was the district chief Fan from the Maoshan area back then, memories of the past flood back for Director Li. In June 1938, Chen Yi led the New Fourth Army to establish a revolutionary base in the Maoshan area and initiated the anti-Japanese struggle. Just as everyone was celebrating the victory of the Weigang ambush, the chief of staff Xu was murdered. The battalion commander mistakenly believed it was the work of the Kuomintang district chief Fan and was ready to execute him, but Chen Yi arrived just in time to intervene and personally freed him, greatly touching Chief Fan. To expand the united front, Commander Chen, introduced by Chief Fan, decided to unite with local wealthy merchant Ji Zhengang to jointly establish an anti-Japanese conference. Female soldier Lin Yun from the New Fourth Army's battlefield performance team and Li Zhihong were dispatched to Ji Zhengang to persuade him. The task was daunting, and Commander Chen specifically entrusted Lin Yun with his personal handgun for protection. Ji Zhengang, having long admired Commander Chen’s reputation, warmly received the two. During the meeting, Lin Yun encountered her father's killer—Yue Jiaquan, the deputy commander of the Ji L Company, which had ties with the bandit Tao Shuangyang, who schemed to take over Maolu and imprison the Ji couple. Upon learning of this, Commander Chen immediately sent troops for their rescue. Lin and Li sought another chance to prove themselves worthy. In the rescue attempt of Ji Zhengang, Lin Yun was secretly shot by Yue Jiaquan and tragically lost her life, prompting Zhihong to use a grenade to kill Yue. Shortly thereafter, Ji Zhengang was appointed chairman of the anti-enemy committee in the Maoshan region, establishing a local government to resist the Japanese. Today, the Qianyuan Temple in Maoshan has been revitalized; it was once a very different scene. Commander Chen expressed his feelings through poetry, and Daoist Master Hui was deeply moved by the discipline of the New Fourth Army, which ultimately forged their friendship over a game of Go. Soon after, the headquarters of the New Fourth Army was established here. The Qianyuan Temple became a thorn in the side of the Japanese troops. After the headquarters of the New Fourth Army moved to Shuixi Village, the Japanese army led by Matsuno set fire to Qianyuan Temple, brutally killing Daoist Master Hui and capturing Maolu. The tragic death of Master Hui enraged Chen Yi. The harshness and heroism of war, along with the complexities of human good and evil, profoundly impacted Li Zhihong, and the trials of blood and fire transformed her into a true soldier. In June 1940, under the directives of the Central Committee, Commander Chen carried out a strategic relocation, leading the main forces of the New Fourth Army northward, marking a new phase in the anti-Japanese war. The remarkable achievements of Commander Chen in the Maoshan area were firmly etched in the hearts of the local people.
