The film is set in the Joseon era, leading the audience into the chaotic times following the ravages of war, as it unfolds a gripping journey between childhood friends turned enemies. Cheon-yeong is a skilled slave who struggles to break free from the unjust shackles of servitude, while Jong-ryeo is Cheon-yeong's master, hailing from the most influential military family in Joseon. Kang Dong-won plays the commoner Cheon-yeong, who strives to change his fate of being a slave. Park Jung-min plays Jong-ryeo, the heir of a renowned military family who takes in Cheon-yeong and later joins the royal army, becoming a key advisor to King Seonjo.
