In 1947, on the banks of the Weihe River in Shandong. The leader of the militia, Ma Handong (played by Zhao Zimin), is seriously injured in the defense battle on the east bank. He orders the messenger Xiao Chen (played by Sun Yu) to return to the command post on the west bank to send a message: Chen Xing (played by Hou Jianfu) has defected; please send someone to the east bank to reorganize the troops and purify the organization.
