Maki, a pregnant woman, worries about the closet while making curry. When she opens the closet, the lower shelf is empty, and the area becomes filled with scent. Keiko has taken in her mother, Saiko, who suffers from dementia, after being rejected by her younger brother and sister. Living with her husband, Koji, and her mother, she struggles with the progressively worsening symptoms and the high costs of placing her mother in a facility, ultimately deciding to abandon her. That night, feeling tense and excited, Keiko aggressively approaches Koji.
