The film is adapted from the manga of the same name. Shy novelist Takadai Maki (played by Araki Yui) cannot ignore her sister's orphan, Tanuki Asahi (played by Hayase Ikki), who is being pushed around by relatives at her sister and brother-in-law's funeral, and decides to adopt her.
