On her birthday, Li Qinnan accidentally falls into a sewer and, while unconscious, dreams that she has become Qiu Yuke, the favored legitimate daughter of the ancient Minister of Rites. However, she is given in marriage to the mysterious current National Master, and her repeated attempts to glimpse his true face end in failure, leading her to develop an escape plan. In reality, the National Master, Ming Jingchuan, is an alien who fell to Earth and once loved a girl named Ali, who was abducted by bandits, and he lost her for hundreds of years. As the National Master, he encounters Qiu Yuke, who resembles Ali, and his heart is stirred again; he frequently approaches her to investigate their relationship. Qiu Yuke, in order to save up for "running away," uses her "innovative" cooking skills and "forward-thinking" business acumen to become wealthy, only to be defrauded by Ming Jingchuan, who makes her sign a huge promissory note and subsequently moves next door to keep her under surveillance. Qiu Yuke discovers that the coffin leading to the real world is hidden in a dilapidated house, but it is taken by its new owner, Ming Jingchuan, whom she mistakenly believes is watching her, causing her dissatisfaction. Conflicts arise between Qiu Yuke and Ming Jingchuan, but fate plays tricks on them, turning them into a bickering couple, leading to a chaotic cohabitation life unfolding…This drama is adapted from the work of the author Shui Sheng of the same name.
