In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, during a chaotic time, the Liulichang area of old Beijing still thrived. Tong Fengquan (played by Zhang Guoli), the owner of Fan Gu Tang, is an old antique dealer skilled in restoration and aging, but this business is rife with deception and pitfalls.
