A long, long time ago, there was a fallen scholar named Liu Yanchang (played by Cheng Peipei), who, having failed in his exams, was already disheartened and downcast. Walking alone in the wilderness made him even more anxious. In his distress, he stumbled upon a dilapidated temple, which enshrined the Three Holy Mothers holding the Lotus Lantern. Inside the temple, he spoke to the statue and even had the audacity to write a five-character quatrain on the wall. Liu Yanchang soon fell asleep, and unexpectedly, the Holy Mother of Hua Mountain (played by Lin Dai) came to the temple. She admired Liu Yanchang's handsome appearance and, upon seeing the poem on the wall, felt her heart move. After several trials and tribulations, Liu Yanchang finally became the husband of the Three Holy Mothers. Their celestial-human marriage became a wonderful tale, but it also touched upon a taboo in the heavenly realm. The Holy Mother’s brother, Erlang Shen, led a troop to besiege the area and locked the Holy Mother in Hua Mountain. Years later, Liu Yanchang's son, Chen Xiang (played by Lin Dai), grew up and, upon hearing his mother’s story, embarked on a legendary journey to split the mountain and rescue her... This film is adapted from a Chinese folk myth and is also the last work of the famous actress Lin Dai.
