This film, directed by Cheng Gang and written by Xin Hanbai, can be considered an early example of "Prison on Fire." The story describes Hong Kong from 1953 to 1955, a period referred to by the police as the darkest time, when crime was rampant, and numerous issues plagued society, with up to thirty-two shocking cases occurring in one day, and forty percent of criminals being repeat offenders. A special commissioner from the British government came to Hong Kong to investigate prison measures and discovered that corrupt individuals within the prisons abused their power, sought personal revenge, and distorted the government's prison system, resulting in prisoners becoming increasingly criminalized and prisons turning into hell. The protagonist, Jiang Cai (Liu Yong), refuses to tolerate the inspector's insults and is ultimately charged with obstructing justice, receiving a sentence of one year and eight months...
