Suzu (voiced by Reina Nishio) is a slow and dreamy girl whose greatest hobby is drawing. As she reaches the age to get married, her parents arrange for her to move to Kure City and marry a man named Shusaku Houjou (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya), becoming a member of the Houjou family. Rinko (voiced by Minako Kotobuki) is Shusaku’s sister, who has returned to her parents’ home with her daughter Harumi (voiced by Natsuki Inaba). Unlike the gentle and honest Suzu, Rinko has a bold and lively personality. Although she often feels dissatisfied with the submissive Suzu, the two actually share a very close bond. As the war begins, more and more fighter planes fly across the sky, and the piercing sound of air raid sirens frequently shatters the quiet of night, with the shadow of war gradually enveloping the lives of the Houjou family. In a bombing raid, Harumi unfortunately dies, and Suzu loses her right hand, making it impossible for her to draw again. Yet, despite the harsh reality, the family does not give up their desire to survive.
