The lonely carpenter grandpa made a wooden puppet boy—Pinocchio—by hand one evening. Perhaps heaven favored grandpa; at midnight, the Blue Fairy appeared and gave this puppet boy consciousness, enabling him to run and jump like other boys. Pinocchio, thrilled to have gained life, quickly made friends with the little animals in the house.
