This animated short is a paper-cut film adapted from the well-known fable "Filling the Ranks with the Unqualified." The extravagant King Xuan of Qi loves to hear people play the yu, but he is not satisfied with the skills of his musicians. To please him, his ministers summoned 300 skilled yu players from across the country. However, due to a clerical error, they discovered that one was missing just as they were about to present them to King Xuan. While the ministers were worried, Mr. Nanguo, who was skilled in opportunism, "recommended himself." Though he knew nothing about playing the yu, he dazzled King Xuan with sweet talk and tricks, making the king very happy and earning rewards of money and beauty. As the situation became increasingly favorable, Mr. Nanguo grew more arrogant, even dreaming one day of becoming a king himself.
