Freddy (Steve Martin) and Lawrence (Michael Caine) are two playboys who have been drifting in the "underworld" for many years. Their target is lonely, wealthy single women, whom they deceive emotionally for profit. In a sense, Freddy and Lawrence are old companions in crime, and their rivalry has never ceased. A woman named Janet (Glenne Headly) appears before the two con artists, and her beauty and sexiness quickly attract their attention. Targeting Janet, Freddy and Lawrence make a bet: whoever wins Janet's heart first will be the undisputed lady killer. They immediately spring into action. However, what neither of them anticipates is that the situation in this game gradually spirals out of their control.
