Ji Chang is a character from ancient Chinese legends, recorded in classical texts such as "Liezi." The Japanese author Nakajima Atsushi adapted the relevant legends into a novel titled "The Biography of Famous People," and this film is based on that novel. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, there was a young man named Ji Chang in Handan, the capital of Zhao, who dreamed of becoming the world's greatest archer. He first became a disciple of the famous local archer Fei Wei, and after years of training under Fei Wei's unique techniques, he became an accomplished archer rivaling Fei Wei’s skill. However, he was not satisfied and yearned to be the one and only divine archer in the world, even contemplating taking Fei Wei's life. Yet, when he faced Fei Wei again, he was ashamed to find that his master still outperformed him. After escaping from this crisis, Fei Wei introduced him to Master Gan Sheng on Emei Mountain, saying that Ji Chang's archery skills were nothing compared to his, which severely hurt Ji Chang's pride. To master archery, Ji Chang went to Emei Mountain, and under Gan Ying's guidance, he learned that the highest level of archery is "the shot that does not shoot," which changed his philosophy of life.
