This animated film is a paper-cut animation, adapted from the operatic work of the same name, with character design by Ke Ming and background design by Liu Feng. Zhang Fei receives military orders, thinking he will be sent to the front lines to fight, but it turns out he is to become a low-level county official. With a fiery temper, he initially wants to refuse the orders, but his attendants remind him that this must be a test from the strategist Zhuge Liang. Thus, he takes office and handles his first case. The land bailiff is caught stealing watermelons in Mr. Yao's watermelon field while he is flirting with a young woman holding a baby. The bailiff wants to stop this but, under Mr. Yao's threats and temptations, he agrees to provide false testimony to help Mr. Yao counter-accuse the woman of stealing the watermelons. In front of Zhang Fei, Mr. Yao and the woman each have their own version of the story, leaving him in a difficult position not knowing what to do. Eventually, he remembers Zhuge Liang's advice, and a clever plan comes to mind.
