The story of the film is inspired by C.D. Payne's novel "Youth Rebellion: The Adventures of Nick Twisp," which is written in a style of absurdist realism, adapted into a screenplay by Gustin Nash. Nick (played by Michael Cera) is obsessed with French culture but feels fundamentally out of place, and his family situation leaves him powerless. Until he meets the beautiful girl next door, Sheeni (played by Portia Doubleday). She collects records of French singers, making Nick feel they are a match made in heaven, but how will Nick, a virgin, cope with this? To win Sheeni's heart, Nick creates another persona—Francis Dillinger. Francis is the complete opposite of timid Nick; he is a pure bad boy who does things Nick probably would never dare to try. The "two" team up for a series of antics that keep the laughs coming. This time, will Nick complete his youth rebellion?
