Jack (played by Robin Williams) is an unusual child who suffers from a rare aging disorder that causes him to grow four times faster than normal. This means that at just 10 years old, he appears to be 40 and sits in class with other children. At first, his classmates do not show much kindness towards this special "big kid," even playing numerous pranks on him due to his strange appearance. However, as time goes by, Jack's kindness and sincerity touch his classmates, and genuine friendships begin to form in the classroom. Besides the misunderstandings caused by his appearance, Jack, as the "big kid," has other troubles; he is mistaken for the principal by a classmate's mother and even falls in love. Of course, the saddest thing for Jack is that as his condition worsens, he is unable to continue his studies, and the day of saying goodbye to his friends draws near.
