A French drama film directed by Annemarie Jacir. Starring Suhail Hammoud and Saleh Bakri. 28-year-old Soraya grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She decides to return to Palestine, her grandparents' homeland. She wants to retrieve money from her grandparents' bank account that has been frozen, but the bank denies her request. She meets a Palestinian youth named Emad, who is solely focused on leaving Palestine. This film participated in the "Un Certain Regard" section of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. The debut feature of Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir explores the themes of belonging and the exclusionary sentiments in Palestine through Soraya's quest for her roots, strikingly sharp yet emotionally resonant, filled with profound national pain, as deep as the love between the protagonists, leaving one reflective.
