"The Day of National Bankruptcy" focuses on the Asian financial crisis of 1997. It tells the story of those who sought to prevent the crisis and those who pursued profit during the week leading up to the national bankruptcy. Kim Hye-soo plays Han Si-hyun, the head of the Korean Bank's monetary policy team who was among the first to foresee the bankruptcy and begin seeking solutions; she faces numerous challenges due to the complex systems and power relations around her. Yoo Ah-in portrays the financial prodigy Yoon Jeong-hak, who profits during the crisis. French film star Vincent Cassel plays the IMF president who secretly enters South Korea.
