However, with no outlet for his emotions, he spends all his time in pubs. Arthur has been maintaining a physical relationship with a married woman, Brenda (played by Rachel Roberts), which brings him both excitement and moral unease. One day, Arthur encounters a girl named Doreen (played by Shirley Anne Field), a pure and innocent girl like he has never seen before. He falls in love, but at the same time, Brenda informs Arthur that she is pregnant with his child. Overwhelmed by worries, Arthur seeks help from his aunt, but is turned down. Ultimately, Arthur decides to take on the responsibility he has long avoided.
