Hanni (Raquel Welch) and her husband Jim are a pair of horsemen in the vast western plains, deeply devoted to each other. One day, robbers Emmett (Ernest Borgnine), Frank (Jack Elam), and Rufus (Strother Martin) "visit" Hanni's home, brutally killing Jim, stealing all their possessions, and setting fire to Hanni's hard-won home. Amidst despair and grief, Hanni vows to avenge her husband. She meets a man named Bryce (Robert Culp), a skilled gunslinger, and under Hanni's desperate pleas, he agrees to teach her how to shoot.
