The American tugboat Ocean Star encounters a rare and powerful typhoon in the South Pacific, facing imminent destruction and loss of life. The crew fights to steer into the eye of the storm for temporary safety. In this calm area, they discover a Russian vessel—the scientific research ship Vukhav. The ship is deserted, and the atmosphere is eerie, with the crew sensing that some creature is lurking and watching them. Soon, they find a Russian woman who reveals that the Mia Space Station, which was conducting collaborative research with the Vukhav, has been attacked by a mysterious extraterrestrial entity. This being has infiltrated the Vukhav's systems through its power supply, taking control of the ship and crazily assimilating human knowledge. Its sole purpose is to exterminate humanity.
