Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is a failed American journalist who, in desperation, travels to the Middle East to try to infiltrate Iraq for battlefield reporting in order to win back his ex-wife's heart. In Kuwait, Bob meets a private contractor, Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), whom he had heard about during previous interviews, and pleads with him to help him cross the border. Lyn was a special forces soldier in the U.S. Army's "Earth Spirit Program," seeking "Jedi powers" through the unconventional training methods of Vietnam War veteran hippie Bill Django (Jess Bridges) to defeat enemies with mental prowess; until military man Larry Hooper (Kevin Spacey) joined and changed the training policies of the "Earth Spirit Program." Bob follows Lyn in Iraq and experiences a series of bizarre and hilarious incidents—does Lyn really possess "Jedi powers"?
