In London 1969, two actors in a "period of dormancy" (unemployed and unemployable) - Withnail and Marwood - are parasitizing a damp, cold environment filled with dishwashers, fervent drug dealers, and mad Irishmen. They decide to leave this filthy place for the countryside to live a pastoral life in their Uncle Monty's cottage. However, when they arrive, it rains all day, there is no food, and their basic survival skills are lacking. Fortunately, Uncle Monty's arrival resolves the troubles they encounter. But new problems arise, as Monty seems overly enthusiastic towards Marwood... Behind the Scenes/Trivia This film is often regarded as one of the best British comedies, a classic among students, and frequently mentioned. Withnail and I tells the story of two down-and-out London actors struggling to escape drugs, alcohol, and decadence in the final months of the 1960s to see the beautiful scenery of the Lake District. The lively scenes throughout the film are unforgettable.
