Young Professor X, Charles (James McAvoy), and Magneto, Erik (Michael Fassbender), are like-minded friends. They were among the first to discover their superpowers and worked with several other mutants for the CIA. The Nazi war criminal Shaw (Kevin Bacon), who triggers Erik's powers, has been trying to instigate nuclear war and is plotting to create conflict between the USA and the Soviet Union. Erik and Charles continue to fight against Shaw's mutants and strive to stop his conspiracy. Shaw incites the Soviets to create the Cuban Missile Crisis, and after learning of this, Charles and Erik confront Shaw's mutants in a showdown at the Gulf. Ultimately, Shaw is defeated by the combined efforts of Charles and Erik. However, during this process, Erik is gradually influenced by Shaw's political views, creating a rift between him and Charles. Through this battle at the Gulf, Erik and Charles ultimately break apart; one becomes the Professor X who supports peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, while the other adheres to the belief that the rise of mutants can only be achieved by eliminating humanity, calling himself Magneto...
