The story takes place in 17th century France. Renowned landscape designer André (Matthias Schoenaerts) sees the talent of female gardener Sabine (Kate Winslet) and decides to recommend her for the grand project of renovating the Palace of Versailles for Louis XIV (Alan Rickman). At that time, being a female gardener was a profession heavily discriminated against, but Sabine does not care about the strange looks from others and instead silences them with her outstanding work.
