A film adaptation of Murayama Tomoyoshi's novel of the same name, depicting Ishikawa Goemon, who is famously known as a great thief, as a rogue ninja rebelling against power. Directed by the social realist master Yamamoto Satsuo, it showcases realistic and spectacular action while illustrating the cries of rebellion from the lower ninjas who have no choice but to live as tools of power, thereby opening up a new horizon for period films. In the late Sengoku period, Oda Nobunaga, who is burning with ambition to conquer the nation, begins to eliminate religious sects such as Enryakuji and Ishiyama Honganji. In Iga Province, the lower ninja Ishikawa Goemon, under the command of Momochi Sandayu, boasts exceptional skills and is respected by his peers. The ninjas, stemming from the Tendai and Shingon sects, receive a secret mission to assassinate Nobunaga, but for some reason, Goemon is left out of the plan... The powerful performance of Ito Yunosuke as Sandayu is a highlight.
