Adapted from the short story of the same name by Japanese literary master Ryunosuke Akutagawa. King Shinigami Kiryu (played by Iizumi Sokkō) falls in love with the girl Komachi Rei, whom he is supposed to take to hell. In order to bring Komachi to hell, Kiryu slowly approaches her, and on a certain full moon night when they become intimate, he confesses his identity as a shinigami. Komachi, in a desperate situation, lies to Kiryu, claiming that she is pregnant with his child, hoping to escape her fate. Later, Kiryu tells Komachi that he can take another girl who shares her same name, surname, and year of birth. To survive, Komachi reveals to Kiryu that she has a friend with the same name, surname, and birth year. Unexpectedly, while searching for the other "Rei Komachi," Kiryu falls genuinely in love with her...
