Spring 2013 CX Japanese Drama SP The second installment of the special drama "Ikkyu-san," starring Fukuzuke, which warmed hearts and brought smiles across Japan when it aired last June, has been confirmed. It is scheduled to air on Children's Day, May 5 (Sunday), at 7 PM, a perfectly fitting date for "Ikkyu-san." "Ikkyu-san" has featured popular figures from various eras in prior Fuji TV productions, including Yasuko Tomita (1985), Yui Asaka (1986), and Kazuki Enari (2004), generating a lot of buzz. Last June, Fukuzuke's "Ikkyu-san" was aired. His intelligence and lovable character perfectly suited the role, capturing the hearts of many, from children to adults. The second installment of "Ikkyu-san" will feature three original stories. The first act includes a plethora of adventures unique to boys while children foster friendships, making it ideal for Children's Day. Themes of "love" and "parent-child affection" are also vividly portrayed, delivering a story full of "laughter" and "tears" that further escalates from the first installment. The cast continues to include returning members, with Hironori Narumi as Shin'emon, Seiran Kobayashi as Sayoko, Narumi Yasuda as Ikkyu's mother, and Umejaku Nakamura as the monk, while Noriyuki Higashiyama plays the shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Expect a star-studded cast! Additionally, Kanako Kurashina will portray Tsukihime, the object of Shin'emon's affection; Akira Nakao will play a man troubled by a love across social divides; and Kihiko Isono will take on the role of Yachiyo, the leader of a traveling troupe, featuring a cast full of vibrant personalities. Young actor Shota Akima has been cast as the headstrong, competitive Kotaro, a young lord, showcasing performance skills that rival those of adults—he is surely a genius child actor to watch! Filming commenced recently at a certain studio in Tokyo. After about 10 months away from "Ikkyu-san," Fukuzuke beamed, saying, "I'm so happy we can all do this together again." He quickly acclimated to the set and embodied the charming Ikkyu-san. During scenes with Seiran and the young monks, he seemed to enjoy working with peers his age, and there were moments of lively chatter during breaks. However, when the director called out, "Ready," his expression shifted instantly as he transformed into Ikkyu-san, showcasing his professional demeanor. On the second day of filming, guest appearances from Kurashina and Nakao also commenced. Upon spotting them, Fukuzuke cheerfully introduced himself, saying, "I'm Fukuzuke. Nice to meet you," while both Kurashina and Nakao squinted their eyes in delight at Fukuzuke's portrayal of Ikkyu-san. This day also featured an impressive fight scene involving Shin'emon, Tsukihime, and Naomasa, with multiple rehearsals showcasing the earnest dedication of the three, compelling Fukuzuke to watch intently. The intense sword-fighting scene is a must-see. Fukuzuke, having grown and matured, portrays Ikkyu-san in ways unmissable. Furthermore, he ventures into his first cross-dressing role! During costume fitting, he was said to be quite enthusiastic about dressing as a woman. With a range of roles from "Yo-kai Ningen" to "Former Adult," Fukuzuke has delivered performances that can rival those of adults; one can't help but anticipate what he will show in this new female role! Fukuzuke expressed, "This time, Ikkyu-san is hard and has many action scenes, so I hope everyone enjoys it. There's also a love story involving Shin'emon, and more scenes with my mother, which I'm looking forward to! It airs on May 5, Sunday, Children's Day, at 7 PM. Please watch ‘Chibi Maruko-chan,’ then ‘Sazae-san,’ and then ‘Ikkyu-san,’" he adorably promoted. This Children's Day, Fukuzuke will embody Ikkyu-san, bringing healing and smiles to Japan! Be sure to enjoy it with your family.
