From Xi'an to Urumqi, passing through Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang, and Turpan. Following the ancient Silk Road, we travel by train across this 2,600-kilometer expanse of China, led by traveler Hayashi Jumon, in pursuit of that ancient prosperity. From arid desert regions to the sub-zero cold mountains; from densely populated metropolises to nomadic tribes in the snowy mountains; from Lanzhou beef noodles to sheep heads. The train travels across the Chinese mainland, with changing landscapes all around. The ancient Silk Road has been replaced by trains and highways, spanning over the desert oases once traversed by nomadic peoples, yet its prosperity remains timeless. The Silk Road connects the West and the East, bringing exotic species, religions, and cultures, which then flourish worldwide. In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Japan-China diplomatic relations, TBS Asahi Television has specially produced this program.
