Kei Komachi (played by Kenichi Matsuyama), who works for a real estate company, and Kenta Oyama (played by Eita), who works at his father's iron factory, are true train enthusiasts. Komachi enjoys listening to music while admiring the scenery outside the window, to the extent that he neglects his girlfriend's feelings; Oyama has a deep knowledge of machinery and can identify the type and manufacturer of an engine just by its sound. The two, quite dull in matters of love, become best friends due to their shared hobby, with trains being a topic they will never tire of. One day, Komachi is transferred to the Kyushu branch, and heartbroken after a breakup, Oyama takes the Seishun 18 train to visit his friend in Kyushu.
